6 Reasons to Visit Sweden in Winter

Sweden is a beautiful country. It isn’t hard to see why people from all around the world visit every year. As popular as it is in the summer months, there are more than enough reasons why you should visit in winter too.

More than 100 Resorts to go skiing

There are a total of 121 ski resorts in Sweden, offering slopes for different levels of skiers. Whether you are a beginner who just wants to learn, visiting with your family, or an experienced skier looking for the next best off-piste slope, there is something for everyone.

Reindeer and Moose

Much like Africa, Sweden also has a great set of animals which you can see on safari. The Swedish “Big Six” include wolves, moose, wolverines, lynxes, musk oxen, and brown bears. The tours allow you to spot some incredible wildlife and experience Sweden’s natural beauty in a way like no other.

Northern Lights

To add to the beauty of Sweden, you are even able to view the northern lights from the northern parts of the country. The best place to view the northern lights is from Abisko National Park thanks to the “blue hole” – a patch of sky that tends to stay clear even when other areas are overcast.

Sleep in Ice Hotels

There are a number of icy areas to stay but none beat the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. The hotel is rebuilt every year and is designed by a variety of artists. So, if you are a regular visitor to Sweden, you can get a new experience of this hotel every year.

Frozen Lake Fishing

Ice fishing is a great activity, even if you haven’t fished before. The water under the ice is often crystal-clear, which allows you to see your bait and see all the fish swimming below that may take it and become your first catch.

Snowmobiles

One of the best things about snowmobiles is that they aren’t difficult to use. This means you can take the family out on a snowmobile trip without needing to endure some of the physical aspects that skiing can have.

Sweden is beautiful all-year-round. Don’t stick to the summer months alone, visit when the crowds are thinner, but the potential experiences are still incredible – in winter. You will be able to experience the country without the hassle of getting through big crowds and in a way that many dream of.

The Best Road Trip Destinations In South Africa

One of the greatest things about South Africa is its diversity both in culture and nature. There is so much opportunity to see a variety of different incredible sights as well as get involved with various communities and learn about the different cultures which make up each different area. If you’re someone who loves a good road trip, South Africa could be the place where you will have the road trip of a lifetime.

The Garden Route

The Garden Route is one of the most famous road trips routes in South Africa. It boasts incredible views of all sorts of indigenous plants to see as well as picturesque beaches, forests and lakes. Included along this 200km route, which stretches between Storms River Mouth in the Eastern Cape and Mossel Bay in the Western Cape are a number of outdoor activities to keep every stop just as interesting as the drive.

Route 62

Much like the Garden Route, Route 62 also stretches between the Western and Eastern Cape. Route 62 is situated slightly more inland than the coastal Garden Route, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful. With lush countryside, gorgeous mountains and a plethora of incredible vineyards, this route provides a lot in terms of Instagramable views and delicious wine.

The Wild Coast

The Wild Coast, situated on the east coast of South Africa, is named for its ruggedly beautiful nature. As you drive through, you will feel as if you are in an untouched area, almost purely natural. Due to this untouched beauty, there are a number of secluded, beautiful beaches which you can explore and relax on. There are parts of the Wild Coast which are the birthplaces of many famous icons of the apartheid, such as Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko, so you can imagine the amount of history and culture there is to discover for yourself here.

The Panorama Route

Another incredible route which suits its name, the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga boasts deep canyons, high mountain ranges and luteous forests. If you take this route, you will get the chance to see the Blyde River Canyon, which is one of the largest in the world. And just when you think that that’s where the natural beauty stops, this spectacular route gives you magnificent flowing waterfalls too.

If you look more closely at each area of South Africa, there is much, much more to find in the way of road trips. You can even do sub-road trips along the way to make your adventure that much more interesting. So, what are you waiting for? Pack the car, get some road trip snacks, and start your adventure around South Africa.

A Packing List For Everyone, Going Anywhere

When the moment finally comes to pack for your trip, you will want to make sure you include everything that you are going to need. It wouldn’t be a fun experience to get to the airport, all excited for your trip, just to realize you left something as simple and as important as your ID at home. That’s why we have created an all-inclusive packing list to help you out on your travels.

The basic essentials

When packing, there are a few basic essentials which you will probably remember, but you definitely don’t want to forget. These include underwear, a change of clothes, important documentation, and a few other items. The basic essentials are things that, if forgotten, will make your trip fairly unpleasant or will cause you to miss your trip altogether. Following our list will ensure that you get to where you need to be and be comfortable on the way there as well as when you arrive.

At least one

There are a couple of items that you will want to pack at least one (or one more) of. No matter where you go in the world, the weather can always change. You need to be prepared for this. If you are going to a generally hot area, it’s a good idea to pack at least one jersey or a raincoat. Just because it is hot most of the time, doesn’t mean there is no chance of a sudden cold day or rain. You’ll be pleased that you prepared if something does happen, and the fact that you packed only one or two preparation items won’t add much to your luggage. Travel Insurance is also available with b4i.travel.

Things for the plane

Flights tend to get a bit boring and uncomfortable at times. You need to make sure you have items in your carry-on luggage which will keep you busy and comfortable. You’ll also need to remember that you will need to take your valuables onto the flight with you, just to be safe. Something as simple as earbuds or headphones can make your flight experience much more pleasant. As easy as it may be to ignore someone coughing on a short flight, by the end of a long flight you might feel very irritated. Earphones or earbuds can help with that, as well as help you to sleep better if someone on the plane snores loudly.

Miscellaneous

Miscellaneous items include things that you might not necessarily need but could make something as simple as plugging in your hairdryer or charging your phone simpler. Not everywhere you go will have the correct adapter, so this is a great item to include in your packing. Copies of various documents would also be a good idea to pack. If something happens to go missing, a backup can almost always save the day.

That sums up the kinds of items you may still need to pack for your travels. If you’d like to see all the items laid out for you to make sure that you haven’t forgotten anything, check out our packing list and tick off each one as you go through them. Have fun packing!

The True Experience of South Africa’s Wildlife

South Africa has so much to offer in terms of beauty. It’s one thing to visit the country and admire the nature, but to truly experience the wilderness at its finest, one needs to venture to one of the many game reserves scattered all over the country.

Kruger National Park

You can’t visit South Africa and not go to the Kruger National Park. Spread over 2 million hectares, the game reserve is one of the biggest in the world and contains all of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo) as well as many other indigenous animals to spot.

Pilanesberg Game Reserve

Pilanesberg is one of the most easily accessible game reserves in South Africa. It is a protected area for the Big Five, so you can expect to spot a couple of these here too. Another great thing about this game reserve is that it is free of malaria, giving you one less thing to worry about on your travels.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Situated in the Northern Cape, Kgalagadi Tronsfrontier Park is known for its red sand dunes and dry riverbeds. The wildlife includes springbok and wildebeest which migrate according to the seasons, as well as predators such as black-maned lions and a number of raptors.

Mapungubwe National Park

Stretching over 28000 hectares, Mapungubwe National Park is a beautiful game reserve with great historical significance. There is a variety of wildlife and incredible views, and is well-known for the sandstone formations, baobab trees and riverside forests which fill the area.

Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Sabi Sands is a private game reserve which offers an up-close wildlife experience. Animals roam freely and there are plenty of possible leopard sightings which make this one of the most memorable game reserves to visit. The Sand and Sabi rivers flow through the reserve, adding to its biodiversity and to the experience.

Madikwe Game Reserve

Madikwe Game Reserve is home to the Big Five as well as much other rare-to-find wildlife such as cheetas, aardwolf, and brown hyena. The area is also free of malaria and has a very diverse set of animals, offering some of the best experiences when it comes to spotting interesting animals and their activities.

When visiting South Africa, it goes without saying that you need to go and see one or two game reserves. You can find yourself immersed in nature and spot incredible animals that you won’t see anywhere else in the world. It’s a once in a life-time experience that you will want to experience more than just once.

Wonderful Adventures In Greece

Greece is a country filled with historical significance and mythology. There are a variety of sites to see and activities to take part in which range from spectacular temples to gorgeous landscapes. Below are some of the best things to do when you visit this amazing country.

Acropolis

Acropolis stands above Athens, the capital city of Greece. If you love ancient architecture, you can walk around freely and marvel at the site where the statue of Athena once stood.

Mount Olympus

A mountain with great mythological significance and one of the most famous in the world is Mount Olympus. If you visit Greece, you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to climb the mountain and hear all about the legends which are interconnected with it.

Lake Plastira

Lake Plastira offers a number of activities from horse riding to rafting. The lake is surrounded by oak trees and people say it is “blessed with a plethora of natural beauty”. Which is fairly impressive considering the lake is infact man-made.

Santorini

Santorini is one of the most iconic places for honeymooners, and it’s easy to see why. The pristine white buildings create a picturesque scene next to the blue ocean. The island is also formed by a volcanic crater so you can imagine how incredible some of the views are.

Samaria Gorge

If you love nature, Samaria Gorge is the place you need to be when going to Greece. Located on the island of Crete, the gorge stretches over a distance of 16 kilometres, however some parts of it are as little as 4 meters wide. A walk along the entire gorge can take up to 7 hours. It’s a hiker’s paradise.

Melissani Cave

Melissani Cave is a beautiful cave which is home to Melissani Lake, an underground lake with clean turquoise water. The cave is almost 4 kilometres long, so there is a lot to explore. The entrance to the cave is a tunnel which you then use to access the boats to go out onto Melissani lake.

The Cornith Canal

The Cornith Canal is a beautiful canal which took many centuries to build. Cut into massive rock, the canal is 6 kilometres long with sections of wall as high as 90 meters. You can still see boats go through the canal if you are there at the right time and, if ships don’t interest you, there is even a bungee jumping spot.

No matter what you prefer, Greece has so much on offer. Whether you take a trip through mythological history or stay in some of the best honeymoon spots in the world, you will enjoy every moment. Let B4i.travel help you book accommodation and transport (car rentals or shuttle services) for a stress-free holiday!

Avoid the Hack

Avoid the Hack

When travelling abroad, many of us will rely on public Wifi, whether from a shopping mall or the restaurant you are enjoying that very expensive ethically sourced cup of coffee from the foothills of some mountain, whose beans that were ingested by a baby panda.

Photo by Paul Hanaoka on Unsplash

The problem with many of these public Wifi hotspots is that they can be used to hack your credentials, so we strongly suggest not using them to do banking or log into services that require password access.

It is not always possible to wait till you get back to your hotel or accommodation provider to make use of their probably more secure connection. That’s where have a local sim loaded with a data bundle provides you far greater security and peace of mind when travelling abroad.

A worrying development recently revealed at DEF CON, Security conference in August 2019, was the upcoming availability of fake lightning cables:

Mike Grover, who goes by the pseudonym MG, designed the “O.MG cable” to look and function exactly like a legitimate Lightning cable made by Apple—but they are modified with hardware (including a very tiny wireless access point) that allows a hacker to remotely run various scripts and commands and hijack a targeted device.”*

Apple MFi Certified Logo

So next time you run out of battery power and hand your phone over to the barmen or waiter to charge your phone, think twice.

Ideally when travelling always use your own cables and if you are forever running out of battery make sure to pack an airline friendly power bank (those that are 10 000mAh or less) to take on your adventures.

And if you ever get stuck without a cable on your travels, make sure you buy an original or at least a certified manufacturer-approved cable. For accessories certified by Apple, they come with an MFi (Made for iPhone) logo, the MFi chips costs around $5 so if the cable you buying is cheaper than that, it’s most likely a fake. You can check which manufacturers are Apple approved by clicking here.

A lot goes into planning the perfect trip, make sure you have your mobile security bases covered before your next adventure. Explore your world with us.

8 Things To Consider Before Travelling The World

When you look at travelling and going on vacation, there is a lot to consider before the actual day you depart. There are many vacations which you may not be able to go on and truly enjoy, but at the same time, many that you will consider the trip of a lifetime. So, how exactly do you plan a vacation?

First Thing’s First – Destination

First of all, you will need to decide on the location you want to visit. When doing this, you need to consider the costs. Does the exchange rate work in your favour, and if not, is it worthwhile to spend your money on the trip to that specific destination? You also need to pick a destination that you will actually enjoy. There is no point in going somewhere with snow when you hate the cold and would much rather go on a beach holiday.

Time

You will also need to consider how much time you have. Will most of your time be taken up travelling or do you have enough vacation time to travel and get all your activities done? Consider who you are travelling with, as this will also impact the use of your time. Your travelling companions may prefer to experience something that you would rather go through quickly and move on from. Also, consider the time it will take to get your passport and visa sorted out if you are travelling abroad. You don’t want to book a trip that you won’t be able to even go on.

Flight bookings

Once you have decided on your destination and who to travel with, you will need to book your flights. When doing this, consider the time of the year that you want to go. Depending on when you are going, you may be able to save on your flight prices by a lot. There are also a number of travel packages which include your flights and your accommodation. Booking one of these may also save you money.

Book your accommodation

Once your flights are all sorted, you will need a place to stay on your trip. If you are going to be moving around to a variety of areas, you will obviously need to book multiple different places to stay. Look at where you want to stay and when you want to stay there over the course of your trip. Let B4i.travel help you book your accommodation here.

Transport

When considering different locations, there are big differences in the types of transport available. Make sure you get familiar with what is available and what the best option would be for you. Some places may be better to just catch a taxi whereas others might be good to hire a scooter. Book your transport (car rentals or shuttle services) with B4i.travel.

Tourist Attractions

Now that all the hard stuff is out the way, you can start planning your tourist activities. Check what areas you will be in and what the best order would be to visit things. Look at how close each place is to your accommodation, taking travel time into consideration, and use that as a way to decide the smoothest way around and the least amount of time spent getting to each place.

Special Items

In some cases you will be travelling to areas with high risk. For example, some places have a high risk of malaria. Make sure you prepare for these areas and take the required medication as prescribed by your doctor.

Finances

There are many different ways to get your money abroad. Speak to your bank about the circumstances of the location that you will be visiting and see if there are any suggestions they have for you on how to get your card to work abroad or anything else that may get your money abroad.

And that’s everything. Take note of all the steps and be prepared for the unexpected to happen. There is always a possibility that something can happen to catch you off-guard. The more prepared you are, the less likely it is to surprise you.
